What is International E-Waste Day?

International E-Waste Day is an annual initiative organised by the WEEE Forum to raise awareness of electronic waste and encourage people to repair, reuse and recycle electrical and electronic equipment.

International E-Waste Day takes place on 14 October 2026, and BF is encouraging clubs and members to consider what they can do to reduce electronic waste.

International E-Waste Day is one of the initiatives shared in a calendar of sustainability events as part of the BF Environmental Strategy. Members can find out more about BF’s approach on the Green Piste, BF’s Environmental Sustainability webpage.

How BF Will Get Involved

BF will bring its environmental sustainability work to the Cardiff 2026 Para Fencing European Championships, running an environmental sustainability stand. It will provide an opportunity to raise awareness and encourage the fencing community to think about repairing, reusing, and recycling electronic equipment.

How BF Members Can Get Involved

Clubs and members do not need to organise a major initiative to take part. Small changes can help extend the life of fencing equipment and reduce unnecessary waste.

Ideas for International E-Waste Day include:

  • Repair: Check whether old or broken electronic fencing equipment can be repaired before replacing it.
  • Reuse: Encourage members to donate unwanted electronic equipment that could be reused by their club or other fencers.
  • Recycle: Dispose of old batteries, cables and electrical equipment through appropriate electrical waste recycling facilities rather than putting them in general waste.
