CHAMPIONS CROWNED AT 2026 CADET & JUNIOR NATIONALS WEEKEND

This year’s Cadet & Junior National Championships took place in Nottingham on 12th-13th September, alongside the U14 A BRC and GB Cup Ranking Event. Read more about the event, including links to results, photos, and videos.

Cadet (U17) and Junior (U20) fencers from across the country arrived at the David Ross Sports Village at Nottingham University, ready to battle it out for the title of National Champion. The event takes place annually and is open only to those eligible to be selected for GBR. Winning a medal increases fencers’ likelihood of GBR selection at major international events, such as the European and World Championships.

Alongside the Championships were the GB Cup Ranking Event – Epee on the Saturday and U14 A BRC – Epee & Sabre event on the Sunday.

A highlight in the U14 domestic competition series, the BRC A was an opportunity for fencers to gain valuable ranking points – the second highest ranking points at a domestic event. The BRC A therefore plays a significant role in shaping selection outcomes.

Moreover, A BRC events are designed to replicate the competitive experience of an international competition where the focus is on learning to perform on the occasion. For young athletes, their parents, and coaches, this gives a domestic ground to experience a major event and prepare for future competitions. BF Head of Talent Sarah Jones was also present at the event, with parents and fencers being able to discuss their GBR Pathway potential with her.

Congratulations to the winners of the U14 A BRC – Epee & Sabre:

U14 A BRC Women’s Epee: Katrine Hung (Four of Clubs)

U14 A BRC Mixed/Men’s Epee: Lucus Cerny (Forth Valley Fencing Club)

U14 A BRC Mixed/Men’s Sabre: Matthew Yeremeyev (Salle Paul Phoenix)

U14 A BRC Women’s Sabre: Simona Giddy (Cardiff Academy of Fencing)

The GB Cup Ranking Event – Epee contributed to the new GB Cup Rankings, which are designed to recognise performance while creating meaningful competition opportunities for athletes working towards higher levels of competition, as well as those who simply enjoy competing regularly. For the first time, results from GB Cup Ranking Events contribute to the main BF Senior Rankings.

Congratulations to the winners of the GB Cup Ranking Event – Epee:

Senior Women’s Epee: Ji Dora (Millfield)

Senior Mixed/Men’s Epee: Samuel Jukes (Blackpool Fencing Club)
