RESEARCH INVITATION: APTITUDE TESTS FOR DISABLED APPLICANTS

GBR para fencer Emily Holder invites participants to take part in an interview for her research entitled ‘How disabled job applicants are disadvantaged by standardised aptitude testing?’.
From Emily Holder:
About this research:
The aim of this research is to find out how HR teams set up and use standardised aptitude tests and how those choices affect job applicants with disabilities. With the purpose of:
- Understanding the steps and decisions of the recruitment process,
- Show where and why tests and automated systems create barriers for disabled people with varying impairment types.
- To produce practical recommendations HR teams can use to make recruitment more accessible and fairer.
The research is being carried out by Emily Holder – eh1945@york.ac.uk as part of their undergraduate degree at the University of York.
You are being invited to take part in a short interview for this research.
Emily is looking for HR personnel with knowledge of their company recruitment processes and systems, such as HR acquisition and recruitment managers or HR managers.
About the interview:
The interview will take place over Zoom. It will ask you about your role and context, the company’s recruitment processes from start to finish including metrics and monitoring , what your standardised testing process looks like and how the tests are configured, how automation and screening works, reasonable adjustments, disability disclosure and stigma around this. It will last about 30 – 45 minutes. If you agree, the interview will be audio-recorded.
Do I have to take part?
No. It’s also fine to ask to end the interview at any time.
Will I be named in the project report?
No. The dissertation will not name you or anyone else who takes part in the project. The report may include short quotes from people interviewed for the project, but these will not include any information that could be used to identify interviewees.
Where will my data be stored and how will it be used?
All project data will be stored within University of York secure data storage systems. It will only be used for this research.
