REMINDER: U14 & U17 RANKINGS MOVES TO ROLLING SYSTEM FOR 2026-27 SEASON

Ahead of the 2026–27 season, an important change is being introduced to British Under 14 and Under 17 rankings.

From the start of the season, British Under 14 (U14) and Under 17 (Cadet) rankings will move to a rolling 12‑month ranking system. Under this approach, counting results will include all eligible results achieved in the previous 12 months.

This change is designed to provide greater stability in rankings, particularly at the start of the season, and to support fairer early‑season international selections for cadets.

Under 17 (Cadet)

For U17 fencers, the end of the season is defined as the conclusion of the Cadet World Championships in Rio. The event marks the final point at which results will count towards the outgoing season’s rankings.

Fencers are advised to plan their competition schedules carefully and ensure they achieve six counting results within the rolling 12‑month period.

  • Rankings will be based on results from the previous 12 months from nominated events that appeared on the GBR Calendars.
  • An end‑of‑season ranking will be published by BF.
  • Start‑of‑season rankings will follow shortly afterwards.
  • Fencers born in 2009 will no longer appear in U17 rankings as they transition to the U20 category.

Under 14

For U14 fencers, the end of the season will be set at the conclusion of the EFC Under 14 Festival, held at the end of June.

An end‑of‑season ranking will be published to formally close the season, followed shortly by start‑of‑season rankings.

  • Rankings will operate on a rolling 12‑month basis from nominated events that appeared on the GBR Calendars.
  • An end‑of‑season ranking will be published.
  • Start‑of‑season rankings will follow shortly after.
  • Fencers born in 2012 will no longer appear in U14 rankings as they transition to the U17 category.

To support these changes – BF have added ‘Live’ rankings for the U14,Cadet and Junior categories to align to the other categories.

During the transition to the new calculations, you may experience occasional technical issues as we implement the changes. If you notice any problems, please report them through the usual support channels using the ranking query form.
