NOTTINGHAM U14 A BRC SEPT EVENT - IMPORTANT INFO

U14 ranking points, EFC selection eligibility support, competitive experience and the opportunity to meet Sarah Jones, Head of Talent. Important information about the A BRC in Nottingham, on Sunday 14th September, the second largest ranking points event for U14 epee and sabre.

On Sunday, 14th September, during the weekend of the Cadet and Junior Nationals in Nottingham, there is an U14 A BRC event running for epee and sabre. The event is an important highlight in the BF domestic competition series structure for any athlete who is intending to go on to future GBR Pathway and International fencing experiences.

The event is an ‘A’ event in the BF domestic competition structure. The purpose of the domestic competition series structure is to:

  • Support new fencers starting on their competitive journey at all levels
  • Create safe, fun, and competitive environments for fencers to enjoy their sport
  • Provide a clear route for fencers seeking future GBR Selection through domestic competitions
  • Provide all fencers that compete in a registered domestic competition with a GB ranking at the recognised age categories

More information about the difference between the levels in the BF domestic competition series can be found here.

Financial Support

Typical standard entry fees for an A BRC event range from £60 to £80. BF is mindful of the rising costs of attending fencing events and the potential barrier to participation this creates for some members of our community.

As a result, BF offers a limited number of free entries to athletes wishing to enter the September U14 A BRC event. These will be offered based on financial need, not on ability. This scheme will cover 100% of the entry fee cost. More information on the scheme and how to apply is available here.

Ranking Points

This event will carry the second highest ranking points available at a domestic event (175).

BF rankings are based on a fencer’s best six results, with a maximum of four counting from international competitions. Given its weighting, this event is expected to feature prominently in many athletes’ ranking profiles.

EFC Competitions

Athletes eligible for the U14 age group have a valuable opportunity to earn additional ranking points to support future selection for EFC competitions.

As the second-highest multiplier among domestic events, performances at the A BRC are likely to play a significant role in shaping selection outcomes.

Please note: only athletes ranked within the top 50% of the BF U14 rankings will be eligible to enter EFC U14 competitions. It is therefore important that any athlete wishing to be eligible for EFC U14 competitions consider the A BRC September event in their fencing calendar.

Development Experience

A BRCs are designed to replicate the competitive experience of an international competition where the focus is about learning to perform on the occasion. For young athletes, their parents, and coaches, this gives a domestic ground to experience a major event and prepare for future competitions.

This event will include:

  • Field of play rules applied
  • Conductive pistes
  • Referees are provided throughout

Opportunity to meet Head of Talent

Sarah Jones, Head of Talent, will be at the A BRC event to meet athletes and parents who would like to discuss their GBR Pathway potential. Sarah will be hosting discussions over the weekend for parents and coaches interested in learning more about the GBR Pathway. Morning and afternoon sessions will take place on Sunday 14th September. Please ask the events team for more information.

Sarah Jones says, “This is a fantastic opportunity for our U14 fencers to gain valuable development experience in a competition environment and I’m looking forward to meeting our new generation of GBR athletes.”
