Last week, BF Inclusion Manager (Disability) Rick Rodgers was honoured in the Financial Times as one of the 2025 Kindness and Leadership 50 Leading Lights.

The announcement from Kindness Rules said:

“These remarkable individuals come from all corners of the UK and across a wide range of industries — from social enterprise and education to corporate leadership and the public sector. They demonstrate that true leadership isn’t just about achieving results — it’s about uplifting others, creating inclusive cultures, and strengthening communities.”

About receiving the news, Rick said:

“It was an honour to be among so many people who are leading with kindness. I wouldn’t have been nominated if it wasn’t for the British Fencing and the work they have been supporting me in pursuing over the last few years.”

Since joining the BF team in 2022, Rick has helped to break down barriers to participation in wheelchair fencing by educating the community, opening competitions and opportunities, and innovating new equipment schemes. He was instrumental in the creation of the SwordSeat™, launched earlier this year. The SwordSeat reduces the cost of training wheelchair fencing at grassroots by over 90%. It works as an easily-packable and stackable system, serving as a user-friendly tool in clubs, schools, and activity centres.
