GEORGINA USHER ACCREDITED AS IOC SAFEGUARDING TRAINER

Congratulations to Georgina Usher, who is now an accredited IOC safeguarding trainer, one of two globally for fencing.
As part of the FIE Strategic Plan 2025–2028, the FIE has committed to up-skilling safeguarding capacity across National Federations. Part of the plan is to ensure that there are people able to deliver training and education to people working in National Federations.
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) recently launched a new ‘Train-the-Trainers’ programme. This training equips trainers with the necessary skills to subsequently train up safeguarding focal points using a “Safeguarding Essentials Course”.
The course content has been developed with a person-centred, evidence-based and public health approach and is designed to build national-level capacity in safeguarding.
The Safeguarding Essentials Course aims to:
- Equip participants with essential foundational knowledge and practical guidance to support the implementation of prevention measures
- Respond appropriately to first disclosures
- Understand referral pathways to internationally trained safeguarding officers and other appropriate personnel (e.g. law enforcement)
Georgina’s accreditation as an IOC trainer (one of two globally for fencing) reflects the strength of commitment to safeguarding best practice at all times.
