GBR PARA ATHLETES WELCOME USA FENCING IN BATH

GBR para athletes at the World Class Programme (WCP) Performance Centre in Bath were visited by the USA fencing team.

GBR fencers welcomed the USA team in Bath.

GBR athletes recently welcomed the USA para fencing team to the World Class Programme (WCP) Performance Centre at the University of Bath. Taking place between the 27th January and 2nd February 2026 , the visit allowed for sparring, athlete development and the sharing of ideas.

The camp was the result of conversations between the USA and GBR Governing Bodies and performance staff after the Paris Paralympic Games, proposing closer collaboration through the LA cycle. The GBR team will now travel out to Florida before the World Cup in May to train and spar with the USA athletes. It is hoped this partnership will continue and lead to further successful training camps in the coming months.

Matt Hammond, BF Head of Performance Development & Paralympic Performance Lead, commented:

“It was great to see the national centre in Bath full of energy and ideas throughout the duration of the camp. We will certainly be looking to repeat this training opportunity each year, as the coaches and athletes got so much from the exchange and the experience.”

The visit follows the recent news of USA Fencing becoming BF’s second SwordSeat™ Family member, allowing them to provide SwordSeat resources to their members. This expansion of grassroots opportunities allows for the greater development of para fencing across the globe.
