FIRST BUILT SWORDSEATS™ IN THE COMMUNITY

Thanks to production from Goodwood interiors and logistics support from DM Link, the first couple of SwordSeats are now out in the community, having been purchased by clubs and activity partners.

We are delighted to finally announce that some of the newly built SwordSeats are out in the world, doing good and supporting grassroots seated fencing participation.

pieces that make up a SwordSeat are partly unwrapped on the floor, they still have the bubble wrapping on but the outer plastic is open.     a pile of wrapped packages on pallets ready for shipping

One newly built SwordSeat was purchased by the King Edward VI School in Stratford-upon-Avon, and was immediately put to good use, supporting wheelchair fencers participating in coaching training there this week.

Chris Turner, BF Coaching & Workforce Development Manager, spoke on the new equipment:

“The SwordSeat is a game changer in that it’s much easier to arrange, store, and transport these than the metal frames. The SwordSeat shows that we can adapt coaching training and CPDs to disabled coaches and those wanting to specialise.”

We released purchase information a couple of weeks ago to those who had used our expressions of interest forms to give them an opportunity to get ahead of the rush, as we are initially creating these in small batches. If you were hoping to get one but haven’t yet filled out the expression of interest, you can purchase the currently available options below.

Printed pattern – £75 postage included – if you’re keen on DIY or have access to a wood shop, this option could be for you. You’ll receive a roll of three A0 sheets of paper, which have the pattern needed to cut your own SwordSeat using just a drill and jigsaw. You’ll need to purchase own plywood, of course, so please remember to make sure that’s up to the minimum standard.

Ready-Made SwordSeat™ – £400 – let our manufacturers take all the hassle out of building your own and instead purchase a ready-made set. You’ll receive all 14 pieces that make up the SwordSeat, ready to be slotted together for your seated fencing set up.

Please be aware that we can only deliver to UK-based individuals and organisations at present.

Those waiting on the Design File, please be aware that the design file requires a greater level of clarity and understanding than either the printed pattern or ready-made sets, so is going through a couple more layers of check and challenge than the other items have. The drafting has been finished, and we’re now in review mode, so the final iteration of options should be ready online for download soon.

Remember, to complete your SwordSeat and provide a good experience, you’ll need to source the following additional items, which will come to approximately £85 (depending on where you purchase them from) –

  • 4 heavy-duty ratchet straps
  • 2 reasonably firm wheelchair cushions (16 x 18 x 3 inches)
  • Neoprene tape for the floor contact points
  • Double-sided velcro for the cushion attachments
  • Tennis tape for the handle
  • A little sandpaper to keep splinters at bay
