FIE COMMISSION AND COUNCIL MEETINGS JUNE 2026

Aiyenuro, Huggins, Jacobs and Usher attended the the FIE Council and Commission meetings on 27/28th June in Sofia, Bucharest.

The FIE held the annual meetings of its Commissions and Councils on 27–28 June at the Metropolitan Hotel in Sofia, Bulgaria.

Representatives from across the FIE’s governance structures attended, including from British Fencing:

  • Pay Aiyenuro, BF President and FIE Comex Member
  • Janet Huggins, member of FIE SEMI Commission
  • Peter Jacobs, member of FIE Legal Commission
  • Georgina Usher, member of FIE Women and Fencing Council

The meetings provide the opportunity for the Commissions and Councils to review Congress proposals and update each other on working plans.

As part of the Women and Fencing Council update, Georgina Usher presented the interim results of part 1 of the Women in Fencing research and opened part 2 of the study, which will focus on qualitative input.

The meetings coincided with celebrations marking the 100th anniversary of the Bulgarian Fencing Federation.

Alongside the formal meetings, the FIE delegation participated in the Bulgarian federation’s centenary celebrations and visited the Vasil Levski National Sports Academy, where potential cooperation with the FIE was discussed and a tree was planted as part of the FIE’s Fencing for the Planet initiative.
