Junior Foil World Cup, Hammamet

The Junior World Cup took place between the 30th January and 1st February in Hammamet, Tunisia. It was a non-nominated event in the GBR calendar, but with the support of the GBR Pathway team, the athletes were able to enter to build their world ranking.

Going into the event ranked second, the team earned a bye into the last eight to face the home nation. Despite initially trailing in the first and second legs, the team soon levelled the score before building a strong lead. With a score of 45-35, the team advanced to face Hong Kong in the semi-finals.

The semi-final against Hong Kong was a fierce battle throughout. GBR started off strong but were soon overtaken by their opponents. Refusing to give up, however, the team showed resilience and confidence. With standout performances from Callum and David – scoring nine and eight points in the final two legs, respectively – the team brought the score back into GBR’s favour. A neck-and-neck final leg and a final touch from David cemented a 45-44 victory for the GBR team.

Now in the final, the team faced Russia where their journey to the podium ended with a 45-33 score to earn silver.

In the individual event, David placed 6th, Callum 37th, Ethan 67th and Aarav 70th.
