EFC CONGRESS 2026 SUMMARY

Hilary Philbin, Pat Aiyenuro and Georgina Usher attended the EFC Congress in June, held on 13-14th June 2026.
For the first time, the annual EFC Congress was extended over two days, dedicating the first day to discussion. This created a rare and valuable opportunity for EFC member federations to openly discuss shared challenges, learn from one another, and better understand how different federations approach similar issues.
Specific topics included the future of the European Cadet Circuit and athlete development; good governance, transparency and modernisation within the EFC; the challenges faced by small and emerging federations; new approaches to partnerships and sponsorship; safeguarding, equality and diversity; the role of innovation, communication and artificial intelligence in the future of fencing; strengthening cooperation between the EFC, the FIE and the wider international fencing community.
British Fencing attendees at the 2026 Congress were:
- Hilary Philbin, EFC Comex Member,
- Pat Aiyenuro, BF President, FIE Comex Member
- CEO Georgina Usher
In their respective roles as operational leads for the Equality and Diversity Commission and the Safeguarding Commission, Pat and Georgina also took part in a presentation and Q&A about the work of the Commissions.
