CRY SCREENING OPPORTUNITY FOR GBR PATHWAY ATHLETES

BF will be offering CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young) screening to Pathway athletes attending the April GBR Development Camp. This initiative forms part of our ongoing commitment to athlete wellbeing and to ensure that fencers have access to the highest standards of medical support.

What Is CRY Screening?

Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) provides subsidised cardiac screening for young people aged 14–35, using tests such as ECGs (electrocardiograms) and echocardiograms, which can detect most underlying cardiac abnormalities. These tests are non‑invasive, painless, and take only a few minutes to perform. [c-r-y.org.uk]

CRY’s screening programme plays a vital role in identifying hidden heart conditions, helping reduce the number of young people who suffer sudden cardiac death each year. Many cardiac conditions present no symptoms, and athletes can be particularly vulnerable because intensive training can place additional stress on the heart.

CRY has been a leading provider of athlete cardiac screening in the UK since 1993, working with GB athletes and major sports organisations to ensure safe participation at all levels. Their screening events are supported by specialist doctors trained in sports cardiology, and many public screenings are offered free of charge.

Who Can Access Screening?

This screening opportunity is open to all GBR Pathway athletes attending the April camp.

Places will be allocated on a first‑come, first‑served basis.
