COMBAT CLUB NGB CEOS CONTINUE COLLABORATION

The CEOs of British Judo, British Wrestling and British Fencing met to share learnings and discuss current and future collaborations as part of the Combat Club initiative.

Combat Club is a cross NGB coach development initiative which brings together performance coaches for learning and development opportunities.

Alongside these opportunities, the Combat Club CEOs aim to regularly meet to share learnings and discuss current and future collaborations across all areas of National Governing Body work.

Topics discussed at this meeting included:

  • Governance Efficiencies – There was a discussion on how the British bodies can help reduce the burden of duplicated governance work often across smaller home country bodies, reducing the burden on the home country organisations and enabling them to direct more resource into frontline sport delivery.
  • Combat Centre – Andrew Scoular (CEO British Judo) provided an update on the Combat Centre plans for Walsall, which has the potential to play a vital role in providing a facility for training and competition for all three sports.
  • Women and Girls – There was also a discussion on the challenges around attracting and retaining women and girls to identify common themes and potential areas to collaborate.

Other topics discussed were Finance/IT/HR, talent and performance programme management and supporting coaches and athletes in the performance system.

The CEOs concluded with a renewed cross sport commitment to support the Combat Club coach development initiative and agreed to reach out to the other ‘Combat Club CEOs’  to schedule dates for the next meetings.
