Ranked fifth going into the competition, she was exempt from the poules and earned a bye into the last 16. There, she defeated Clemence Delavoipiere (FRA) with a comfortable 15-2 victory. She then went up against Chui Yee Yu (HKG) in the quarterfinals, where she won 15-4 to earn a place on the podium. Gemma faced strong competition from Georgia’s Nino Tibilashvili in the semi-final, ultimately being defeated 15-9 to take the bronze medal.

After beating Veras 15-9, Gemma moved on to Duean Nakprasit, defeating her 15-6 on Nakprasit’s home turf. Now into the semi-final, Gemma once again defeated Chui Yee Yu, this time with a 15-9 win. Afterwards, Gemma said:

“I’m thrilled to end the year with a silver and a bronze out at the Thailand World Cup and World Abilitysport Games. It caps off my most successful year ever on the circuit, which is testament to the hard work we’ve been putting in on and off the piste – especially on the consistency of my mindset and physical intensity.

“As always, it’s a collective effort – and I am so grateful to everyone at Salle Paul Phoenix for their support, coaching, sparring, advice, and belief. It’s been a very weird year… I’ve probably never fenced less due to a combination of injuries and putting a greater focus on my strength and conditioning, so it gives me a lot of confidence to have still been able to perform at a high level quite consistently. There have been moments where I’ve really doubted if I could still get the results, so an enormous thank you to everyone who instilled belief when mine was lacking.

“I can’t wait to get back to training as we look forward to a home Euros and the start of LA qualification next year, as there’s plenty more work to be done!”
