CHANGE FOUNDATION INTER-SCHOOL FENCING COMPETITION

Last week, The Change Foundation ran their first inter-school fencing competition at the Leon Paul Fencing Centre.

Three schools – Garratt Park School, Glebe School and Woodside School – attended, with eighteen young people in total. The schools that took part are some of the specialist autism support schools that have been receiving fencing training activities by Change Foundation-trained coaches.

BF’s Neil Brown was on-site supporting the volunteer referees. The ten volunteers attending came from Barclays Construction, who have supported The Change Foundation’s other projects in the past.

BF and The Change Foundation are working on a pilot project delivering fencing to young people with autism. The programme aims to provide a unique experience for young people who would otherwise never access fencing and don’t engage with mainstream sports, all while encouraging social integration and helping them to develop motor skills.
