BLACK HISTORY MONTH 2026

Between the 1st and 31st October 2026, BF is celebrating Black History Month. We’re asking members to share testimonials about what the month means to them.
October is Black History Month in the UK, an annual month that celebrates and reflects on Black history, arts and culture, as well as recognising the achievements and roles of Black people in shaping history. This year’s theme is ‘Honouring our Communities’.
Pat Aiyenuro, BF President and member of the FIE Executive Committee, talks about what Black History Month means to her:
“As someone who has had the privilege of working across different cultures and sporting environments, I have seen firsthand how diversity enriches our experiences, strengthens communities, and helps people achieve more than they ever thought possible.
“Black History Month is a time to celebrate the achievements, contributions, and stories of Black communities, while also recognising the importance of creating inclusive opportunities for future generations.
“At BF, our commitment to inclusion and belonging reflects our belief that everyone should feel welcomed, valued, and able to thrive. By embracing diversity, we not only strengthen our sport but also create a richer and more vibrant community for all.”
Share what Black History Month means to you
To celebrate Black History Month, BF is asking members of our community to submit a short vertical video introducing themselves, how they got involved in fencing, and what the month means to them.
The videos will then be shared via BF’s Instagram and Facebook accounts throughout October.
