EQUIPMENT GRANTS AVAILABLE FOR MASKS PURCHASED AT U17 & U20 CHAMPIONSHIPS

The BF Charity has agreed to provide a limited number of grants to athletes facing financial barriers to competition, to subsidise purchases of 1600N masks at the recent 2026 Cadet and Junior Nationals. The application closing date is 9th October at 5pm.

Form: Application Form here

Closing date: 9th October (5pm) 2026

Outcome: All applicants will be told the outcome of their application by close of play on Friday 16th October 2026.

What is the grant for?

The U17 & U20 National Championships (also known as the Cadet and Junior Nationals) require a higher standard of equipment than other domestic events. In particular, 350N masks (typically used for club fencing) are not permitted, as described in the Safety Guidelines section on Equipment by Activity: BF Competition, available in the BF Safety Zone.

The cost of a new mask (circa £360) can act as a financial barrier to participation, particularly for young people who are not expecting to compete internationally (where 1600N masks are required).

The British Fencing Charitable Fund (BF Charity) has agreed to provide a limited number of grants to subsidise the purchase of masks at the recent 2026 Cadet and Junior Nationals.

How much is each grant?

The total number of grants, and the amount of each grant will depend on the number of eligible applications received and consideration of the financial barriers.
