2026-27 TASS SELECTION POLICY

BF is pleased to publish the 2026-27 TASS Selection Policy, providing athletes, coaches and parents with a clear and transparent framework for nomination to the Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme (TASS) for the upcoming academic year.

TASS is a nationally recognised athlete support programme designed to help talented athletes balance the demands of high-performance sport alongside education. Through access to specialist services including Strength & Conditioning, Sport Psychology, Nutrition and Personal Development support, TASS provides athletes with an enhanced environment to support both their athletic and personal development.

Within the BF Talent Pathway, TASS plays an important role in supporting athletes who have demonstrated the potential to progress towards senior international success. The programme complements an athlete’s fencing training and competition programme by providing access to a multi-disciplinary team of practitioners, helping athletes develop the habits, behaviours and performance foundations required for progression through the pathway.

The publication of the new policy represents an important milestone for BF, providing a dedicated and consistent framework for TASS nominations aligned to the wider principles of the GBR Selection Policy. The policy has been developed to ensure athletes are considered against clearly defined performance standards whilst also recognising the importance of athlete engagement, development potential and commitment to working within a high-performance environment.

To be considered for nomination, athletes must satisfy the published eligibility criteria and demonstrate the performance standards outlined within the policy. However, meeting the minimum criteria does not automatically guarantee nomination, as athletes will also be assessed on factors including engagement within the GBR Pathway, commitment to their development, training environment and ability to benefit from the support available through TASS.

A key feature of the TASS programme is the expectation that athletes actively engage with a Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) environment. Successful athletes will be expected to work collaboratively with BF GBR Pathway staff and TASS practitioners, taking ownership of their development both on and off the piste.

For the 2026-27 cycle, BF intends to nominate up to 20 Olympic pathway athletes and up to four Paralympic pathway athletes, subject to athletes meeting the required standards and the availability of places within the programme.

The policy forms part of BF’s commitment to building a sustainable talent pathway and ensuring athletes have access to the support, expertise and development opportunities needed to progress towards future international success.
