Exeter Open 2026

13-14 June

Event Information:

This is a six category senior open. This event will give senior national ranking points.

For those in the South West, this event will also give regional ranking points.

The early bird entry fee of £35.00 will be valid until 23:59 on Sunday 19/04/26. The entry fee will then revert to the standard price of £40.00.

Entry limits may change.

Competition Format:

One or two rounds of poules followed by direct eliminations (the number of rounds will depend on entry numbers on the day).

No cut after poules, all fencers progress on to DEs.

No fight-off for third place.

Additionally, we hope to have space for some optional extra fencing after the standard open event for those who are interested. The format for this will be decided on the day; for example, it could be a plate competition for those knocked out in the first couple of rounds, or a blank poule sheet for some fun fencing. The aim of this is to utilise the space we have to offer as much extra fencing opportunities as we can to those who would like to participate.

Please make us aware if you do not want to be in any photos/videos/media content.

There will be live-streaming provision at this event.

Kit:

For your safety, the usual competitive event kit requirements apply.

You will need:

  • 800N under-plastrons.
  • Masks with a secure back-strap. I.e. one strap that folds back on itself and does not detach if pulled.
  • 800N gloves for Sabre.
  • Size 5 weapons.
  • All other kit must be safe and not have holes in it.

There will not be any armoury provision or equipment vendor at the event, so please bring spare kit with you.

Each fencer is personally responsible for making sure that their clothing and equipment conform to British Fencing rules and are in good condition.

Neither British Fencing nor the organisers of the competition, nor any official or referee involved in the competition is responsible for these matters, or for any accident, loss or damage to persons or property however caused.

Please see the British Fencing information on kit requirements below:

Entries and Refunds:

No refunds will be given - this is entirely up to the organisers discretion.

The standard British Fencing Event Cancellation Policy will apply should the event be cancelled. Although we do hope this will not happen.

Any queries about entries or withdrawals please get in touch.

You must be over the age of 13 on the day of the event to compete. If you are under the age of 18, you must be accompanied by an appropriate parent/guardian for the duration of the event.

You must also have a valid 'Compete' British Fencing membership licence for the event. If you do not have this, you will not be allowed to fence.

We aim to make this a friendly event and we encourage a whole range of fencers with different experiences to come along and compete. We ask that you please be kind and respectful to others at the event as we want everyone to have a great time!

If you are a complete beginner to competitions or would like some advice on how competitions run, it would be great if you could get in touch so we can pair you with a buddy to help guide you through. Please do note that this is a ranking event, so there will be a high level of competitiveness at this event.

Prizes:

Prizes will be available for the top four fencers in each category (Gold, Silver, Bronze & Bronze).

Venue Information:

The venue will be open from 07:30 on both days.

It is advisable to bring your own food. Though there may be some shops open over the weekend on campus, we do not have confirmation of opening hours yet.

The Great Hall has seating on its balcony so spectators are able to sit and watch the fencing.

The Great Hall changing rooms have been assigned to this event, and there are plenty of toilet facilities in the same building as the fencing venue.
