Fencing is about more than gaining sufficient technical proficiency to win a bout. It develops habits that serve us in life beyond the piste: observation, strategy, discipline, adaptability, creativity, understanding others, dealing with pressure, and responding to uncertainty. It teaches us to recognise what is and isn't within our control - and, whatever the circumstances, to embrace discomfort, always try our best, and keep learning.
